The question of purpose — what you're here for, what makes the effort worthwhile — arrives differently at different points in life. Sometimes it's a mild background hum. Sometimes it becomes urgent, especially after something changes: a loss, a success that didn't feel like enough, a realization that the path you're on doesn't go where you thought.

There are social scripts for purpose: follow your passion, find your calling, build something meaningful. None of them prepare you for the specific feeling of not knowing. Of moving through the days efficiently, doing things well, and feeling empty about all of it.

Anonymous thoughts about purpose posted here are the honest account of that feeling. Without the resolution that isn't actually there yet.
