Change is sold as positive: growth, transformation, new chapters. The experience of it is more ambiguous. Something has to end for something else to begin. The person you were before a change and the person you are after — the distance between them can feel like loss even when the change was chosen.

Becoming someone new means leaving something behind. The previous context, the previous self, sometimes the people who knew the previous version of you. This loss is rarely named because change is supposed to be the good thing.

Anonymous thoughts about change posted here are the honest account of both — what was gained and what was left behind. Without having to perform gratitude for the whole package.
